Beat the Winter Blues
Now that Christmas and New Year are over, it’s a good idea to plan something to look forward to. January and February can drag on with cold, dark mornings, and plenty of rain! Booking a holiday or even just a weekend away can be a great way to get you through the start of the year – and you could even book for a few weeks time to break up the monotony of going back to work!
It’s English
The Lake District is located relatively centrally, so it’s easy to get to from pretty much everywhere. This can be particularly useful if you are taking children or dogs on your travels, and by holidaying in the UK you can support the country’s economic growth.
It’s Historic
The Lake District has a great range of activities for you to experience, and you can immerse yourself in England’s literary past. William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter are both writers who drew their inspiration from the beautiful lakes, and you can wander the hills with them in mind. There is also a wonderful Beatrix Potter museum which will enchant both children and adults alike, and plenty of quaint villages and towns for you to immerse yourself in.
It’s Flexible
Holidaying to the Lake District gives you plenty of options in terms of duration and destination. There are plenty of Lake District boutique hotels if you’re after the personal touch, and some will even accept pets. Alternatively, you could rent a quaint cottage for a week or head to a larger hotel if you’d prefer pool and spa facilities – the opportunities are endless!
It’s Beautiful
The Lakes have inspired some of the greatest writers that England has ever produced, and the landscape really has to be seen to be appreciated. Make sure you take your walking boots – there are lots of hikes and nature trails for you to explore, and you can even head to Lake Windermere if you fancy getting out on the water! Boating is a great way to see the hills and dales from the water, and if you don’t fancy getting your feet wet you can enjoy one of the many shore walks that are available.
