Hi! I first came across your writings when you described using the Nokia N95 as a blogging machine. You still using that? Looks like you’ve gone up-market now! I’m curious as your N95 piece got me inspired to try the Nokia myself, to see if it can in some ways compete with my Samsung netbook, certainly on the level of portability! Have fun – you’re in a great part of the planet (I once lived in Singapore, love SE Asia, and now live in Colombia).

      Hi Andy,
Thanks a lot for getting in touch on Happytimeblog. To reply to your question, yes I do still use a nokia N95 (I use the 8gb Version). I have since gone upmarket with a macbook but the Nokia still does things that the macbook can’t. On web browsing it obviously is out gunned by any laptop but I see that as a worthwhile compromise of portability. I use it with a bluetooth keyboard and to be very honest it has never once let me down… No matter where we’ve been! I use it with an app called quick write which is like a spellchecker and that really helps with posts. But it’s still even now (post iphone) an amazing little piece of technology and more than capable, the camera is oodles better than an iphone’s and as I’m sure you’ve seen it can geotag pictures and pin them on a map (which I feel is a great feature to any travel blog). In truth it is all you really need, internet cafes offer any services you might fall short on and if you really want to travel light it will be a worthy partner.

We travelled around a lot of SE Asia using just that and in times when we did have our macbook and no internet connection available we were able to upload posts through the N95! We will be taking it on a trip to Spain in a week and using it to upload pics and maybe posts to the map and blog and if I find any holes in the system I will plug them up and blog all about it.

Thanks again for getting in touch and if you have a twitter or facebook I’d love to have your @names…
