This is the latest in our Full Width Photo Essay series, this time it’s at the Sechseläuten festival in Zurich, Switzerland. We, along with hundreds of thousands of other people have found ourselves stranded in Europe due to the Icelandic volcano eruption. Luckily as you can see below – Every volcanic ash cloud has a silver lining…

1. The festivities start as far as Munich central station.

2. The parade marches on by.

3. Sunshine + Sechseläuten festival = a great day in Zurich.

4. Children dressed up march through the streets of Zurich.

5. People dash from the sidelines to give the ones they like a flower in exchange for a kiss.

6. Baloons fill the air as people let loose and enjoy the Sechseläuten festival.

7. The streets around Bellevue tram station get crazy crowded.

8. The snowman is burned to see how good the summer will be... We're told this year that is was "average".

10. Zurich river twinkles at night after the Sechseläuten festival.

This is number Three in a Full width Photo Essay series…
Below are pictures from around Bangkok, all scenes that any backpacker or traveller passing through Thailand would have probably seen many times.

<Photo Essay: Bac Ha Market, Vietnam).

1. Bangkok Pictures: A hectic Tuk Tuk ride through the streets of Bangkok.

5. Bangkok Pictures: Bangkok street food is some of the best I've ever tasted!

6. Bangkok Pictures: Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace.

7. Bangkok Pictures: A shady spot with a beautiful Red and Gold door in the Grand Palace complex.

8. Bangkok Pictures: A golden spire reaching into a blue sky at the Grand Palace complex.

9. Bangkok Pictures: Golden statues glisten in the sunshine...

10. Bangkok Pictures: Golden faces line the walls outside the Temple of the Jade Buddha.

Full Width Photo Essay: Bac Ha Market, North Vietnam.

As promised this is the second in a series of Full Width Photo Essay‘s I’ll be doing. This time it’s of Bac Ha Market in the far North-west corner of Vietnam, far off of the usual tourist trail and closer to China than Hanoi. This set of travel pictures shows the local hill tribes at their best.

<Photo Essay – Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai.

1. A horse cuts it way through the busy Bac Ha market, Vietnam.

2. A lone woman stands deep in thought.

3. A horse and cart arrive to carry the heavy stuff back into the hills.

4. Colourful women selling chilli's and gossiping.

5. The pigs try to make a run for it at the livestock section

6. Puppies and pigs all packed up and ready to go home.

7. Woman selling ducklings...

8. Hill tribe women shopping for fabric... The louder the better.

9. A boy and his mother enjoy some Melon while waiting for a bus.

10. Two men get ready for the off, There's 20 pigs on each bike!

This is the first in a new Photo Essay series I’m going to be doing. I’ve got literally thousands of travel pictures rotting away in my albums and I feel it’s time to breathe some life into them, I’ll be uploading the large size pictures.
If you haven’t guessed already the first pictorial topic is Jungle Trekking in the hills around Chiang Mai, Thailand…

2. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: Huts in small jungle villages made the simple life look beautiful.

4. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: Children at a jungle village somewhere in Chiang Mai.

5. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: An old lady cleaning up after the hungry trekkers.

7. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: An Elephant and his Mahout, getting a rub down in the jungle.

8. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: The Elephant thought our camera was bananas...

9. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: After a few long days trekking we stayed in a jungle hut with views to die for.

10. Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai: Sore and tired, the views of the hills and jungle around Chiang Mai made up for it.
