Going on holiday is always exciting, but booking your hotel can sometimes end up taking a bigger chunk out of your holiday fund than you expected. If you’re determined to stay on budget this time around, you might want to think about some of the many ways you could save money when booking your hotel.

Hotels up and down the country have all kinds of secrets that they’re keen to keep under lock and key, such as the following!

Hotels offer last minute rates all the time

Sometimes, one of the best ways to save money on your holiday is to book your hotel at the last minute. No hotel manager wants to see rooms stay empty, so they’ll be more than happy to offer them at budget rates in order to see them filled. At the end of the day it’ll still earn them some money!

Independent hotels are more likely to give discounts

Most independent hotel chains are happy to give discounts under special circumstances, whereas most hotel chains are unable to do so due to company rules.

Hotels give better discounts to regular customers

The more often you visit a hotel the more likely you are to get to know the staff there, which could lead to some excellent discounts further down the line. Don’t abuse this though – your hotel friends are only doing their job!

Booking direct can save you money

If you book your hotel room through a comparison website it may add on a surcharge which it can recoup for its efforts. Booking direct will always give you the best rates.

Putting down a deposit can give you a better rate

If you’re given the option to put down a deposit when booking your hotel room, do it! It could cut the cost of your booking and you usually only have to pay around 10% of the overall price there and then. All hotels have little secrets they like to keep from their guests, but if you’re looking to save money when going on holiday this year you might want to try some of these tips. This article was written by Aurora Johnson on behalf of Barton Grange, a hotel located in Lancashire.
