Georgie's in the wars… Feeling poorly in paradise.

Statues on Kuta beach Bali

Monday night, after we had met up with Thomas on the beach, Georgie started to feel a little poorly. By sitting in the midday sun learning some poi she had enraged her prickly heat, what’s more she had started to come down with the flu… Not what you expect from a tropical climate but it’s apparently much more common than you’d expect.

We popped along to our German friends seafood restaurant Utopia in the evening again for more super fresh “catch of the day”, this time he tempted us with stingray. For only rph 65,000 or about £4 we each had best pert of half of the beast, stingray tastes a lot like cod but with a sheet of bone like fins sandwiched in between two large fillets. We raised our Bintang’s to revenge for Steve Irwin and tucked in… I seriously recommend it!

Tuesday came around and I was up by 6:30, Georgie had settled into the worst of her flu so I filled her with drugs, left her to sleep and took a morning walk along the beach.

At that time in the morning the usually busy beach is almost deserted, save a few hardcore surfers bobbing about waiting for a wave. It’s cool almost cold without a shirt, there is no heat haze hanging about and the mountain in the north of Bali that it normally hides is in clear view.

By 7am things had begun to wake up, the sun loungers were all being dragged out and arranged and the joggers were strutting their stuff, I sat on tree stump and watched thinking I might just have a go… I obviously thought better of it! Instead I strolled back to the room to pick up our free breakfast, the all important coffee and check on Georgie.

She was obviously still fast asleep so I sat on our porch sipping on my coffee and sucking on a smoke watching squirrels have a fight in the trees.

We spent the entire day inside in the shade of our garden bungalow, Georgie bless her felt pretty shitty so she slipped in and out of sleep while I played nurse.

Feeling a little better and less the prickly heat she pulled herself up for a walk up the beach and a cheeky sunset Bintang.

The summer and beach days are making me to think more poorly. Really I see your friend’s mind and I know what he thought about. I remember many of the nights under the moon-light staying close to the sea and thinking about the hot surfing day.
