Georgie dodging swine flu in Hat Yai

It’s been almost a week now since our teary goodbyes in Sihanokville, the morning after we scraped ourselves together and got the stupidly early bus to Bangkok bus as is always the case when taking a long distance bus that crosses a border… Things don’t always go to plan. Yet again one VIP ticket + Border crossing = cramped minivan the other side. Not that it bothers us much because we are used to it but it kind of set the tone for the long journey back to Kuala Lumpur.

We arrived in Bangkok not quite an hour after we were supposed to and quickly found a room down the Khao San road, from the very second we arrived Georgie’s agenda was taking over and that agenda was shopping. Faced with an imminent return to the UK she was dead set on spending what money we had left and some we didn’t on pretty things and who am I to deny a pretty lady of her trinkets.

We had a little stroll up the KSR before the journey caught up with me and I retired to the room leaving Georgie to shop until she dropped… Which wasn’t long. (more…)

Puduraya bus station Kualar Lumpur

Oh it’s good to be back in the heat and chaos of Bangkok, it seems like forever since we were last here.

After our super early flight from Bali to Kualar Lumpur we decided to break up our mammoth journey with a day in KL, so we made our way down to Chinatown where the rooms are cheap and the food is good. Knowing we had nothing at all to do in KL meant we could just hang around and watch the world go by and Chinatown is the perfect place to do that. I finally had some roasted duck which I’d had my eye on the whole time we were there last, but for some reason I never got around to it. (more…)

Georgie at the riverside in Singapore

As ever the sumptuous VIP bus delivered us back to Kuala Lumpur in comfort and style. We arrived in KL around 8 o’clock, dropped neatly at the end of the road we needed in Chinatown it was a short walk down to the Grocers inn again.

As soon as we were checked in and our bags off we headed out to the bus station to book our tickets away (how very pro-active), next stop Singapore.

KL's hop on hop off bus tour

With a good nights sleep behind us both we woke up to an 8:30 alarm all ready to see the sights of Kuala Lumpur, while enjoying a nice coffee on our lovely roof terrace the day before I had seen a tourist bus stop just outside our guest house called the “hop on, hop off” bus which boasted to circle the city and stop at all the major sights.
We knew it would be a really very touristy day but seeing as we had made plans to leave KL we decided to indulge… (more…)

Bangkok all the way to Koh Tao…

sunset at koh tao

Our last morning in Bangkok was started good and early by the alarm as we had to be out of the room before check out and also we were off the the weekend market again. This time a little more prepared for the madness and sheer size of the place and Georgie was clear on what she wanted so minimal faffing. We stowed our bags in the safe room at our hotel, hopped into a taxi and soon enough we were there. (more…)
