Booze, Broken toes and beach invaders!
Well its been quite a struggle falling back into beach life, by struggle I actually mean piece of piss. Although it hasn’t happened without its mishaps… Its been a little cloudy since we arrived really although mostly thin enough to still get my roast on and every day has seen at least an hour of uninterrupted blue sky. For the last two days we have been making the most of every ray of sunshine and when the sun goes in we just take a break from all the relaxation and sit on our beautiful balcony or in our trusty hammock. Whilst we were out for a swim a couple of days ago a young couple who I had seen taking a look at the hut next door to us, then settling on one of the cheaper ones set back off the beach, came striding down in the glorious sunshine to the sand and pitched up their towel in the little sun trap created by the palm trees right outside our hut… This is not good form! I understand its not my beach nor my sun but when it came to picking a hut we picked ours because of its setting on the beach with a lovely sun trap and beautifully cool shade under the hanging palms… Not be a tight-wad and get a cheaper hut away from the beach then invade another huts prime frontage! There is ample sand for everyone and the fact they had seen me set up with my deck chair and oil the day before vexed me to my core… Probably slightly over reacting I swam back to shore, stormed up the beach making sure to drip on them as I passed, put the Ipod on full chat and pelted out the most anti-social music I could find, stripped down to my smallest of underwear, got more oily than a mechanics hanky and set up my beach mat as close as I could making sure that their view of the sea would be completely disturbed by the bracing view of my unmentionables cooking in the sun… Georgie’s attack was a little more subtle, she flailed her poi just outside our hut and only a few feet from their heads. Everybody stood their ground until the sun went down but it was pretty clear they were shaken! In the evening we wandered into town for food and on our way back bumped into our super poi friend Jo and her lovely friend Nicole.
We had been planning on attending the half moon party in the forest but we sat and had a few drinks with them and then headed back to their hut for our own party. We stocked up on booze from the shop and dragged some deck chairs to the sea over on sunset beach, dipped our feet into the warm water and sat under an amazingly clear sky chatting, drinking and watching an amazing amount of shooting stars dart across the sky. At one point during the night the water began to glow in places with the almost magical phosphorescent algae. It was the first time we had seen it happen and teamed with lots of booze, good people and a beach to ourselves it was a lot better than any half moon party! Until that is Georgie managed to stub her toe with such force that she broke it… Jo, who is in fact probably the worlds nicest person, dashed off to a nearby bar for a bag of ice. We stayed sitting on the beach until when into the early hours and then Jo, ever the saint, drove Georgie back to our hut on her moped (I should mention at this point Jo doesn’t drink!) and even came back for me so I didn’t have to walk either. I gave Georgie a Piggy back down the beach back to our hut and gave her some pain killers then we headed off to bed… Yesterday was a beautiful morning there was a storm passing by in the distance and the reflection in the sea of the heavy dark clouds turned it a striking deep blue. Georgie laid in until well into the afternoon and when I finally got her up she moaned that the sun was going down!.. She also managed to stub her toe again bless her but it soon calmed down again. We had no more trouble with the sand stealers, they heeded their warning and pitched up down the beach well away from my tight greasy undies. We did however have new neighbours arrive and keen to make sure they know the boundaries of the huts I donned the pants and pulled up a deckchair right outside our hut which put me right in their view as soon as they opened the door… I haven’t actually seen them since, they opened their door once yesterday, I can only assume saw me in all my glory and retreated to the furthest part of their hut to hide… The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent popping to town to book flights and eat which with a broken toe took some time and by the time we got back to our hut it was 1am so we crawled into bed and fell asleep to the sound of the waves and distant drum and bass music…
