mellow mountain bar koh phangan

After a day recovering from our piss up with Jo and Nicole and seeing off sand hungry neighbours… (Our new neighbours had done a runner so once again we ruled the prime beach outside our huts!) We got stuck right into a good old slice of beach bummery.

The day was quite overcast but still bright and warm so we lounged about all day on the beach reading our books and Georgie kept practising her poi skills. Her toe was slowing her down and she started to get a little frustrated with herself so I gave her a new Russel Brand pod-cast to listen to, she pulled a chair into the middle of the beach where the best of the sun was and sat and listened. I popped into the sea for a quick dip in the warm water and from out there I looked back and could see Georgie alone on the beach in a plastic chair laughing herself into hysterics, the people in the nearby huts must have thought she was crackers! The evening drew in and we got some new neighbours, unfortunately it wasn’t sunny enough to be prancing about in my pants to mark my territory, I would have just looked a bit like a sexy menace, but it turned out that they are a really cool pair of fellas from Holland who also love to swing their poi’s…

For the rest of the evening we hung out with them chatting, having a few beers and playing poi… Until the rain came that is but by that point it was g88etting late already so we retired to our balconies and just put our feet up until bed time.

The next day was a lot more of the same. Still a bit overcast but still fairly bright, we just hung out on the beach all day long, a few of the other people from the other beach front huts came and joined us and our new neighbours when they saw us busting open coconuts and eating them so we all just sat about chatting and generally doing not much at all but loving it. By the time the evening came again it had started to rain and we were all a bit stuck on our balconies, Georgie and I sloped off to the reception/restaurant area where they had lots of poi space and it was dry… Also a few of the young lads who work there turned out to be absolute poi masters and they taught Georgie a few moves… While we sat eating dinner all the staff were just outside on the beach having a little BBQ, one of them we always pester in the morning for coffee’s brought over small bowl of their beach grilled squid for us to try. It turned out to be the best squid I’ve ever had by far! And all done on a bucket of coals, under an umbrella in the rain… It was amazingly spicy but so tasty I scoffed the lot in moments. It was clear the rain was in for the night so we headed back to our hut and relaxed until bed time…

The following morning echoed again the days before… Relax all day on the beach waiting for the slightest glimpse of sunshine, bail off the balcony to sweat it up all greased up, play with the poi and go for a swim in the sea. By the early evening the sun had been swallowed by a very dark cloud creeping over the hills and down came the rain, our neighbours joined us on our balcony for a few games of cards before heading out to the bars up the beach to try their hands at fire poi… No sooner had they got out of sight, Jo and Nicole came strolling down the beach. Within minutes we were making trips to the Mellow mountain for some booze. Trapped by the rain on our balcony again we got well and truly stuck into some buckets and quickly got roaring drunk. A few hours into our session a chap who’s name is also Jo wandered passed inquiring about the beach front bungalows, I clocked that he had a ukulele (a tiny guitar which I don’t know how to spell) I saw this as a golden opportunity and invited him to join us. Then one of our Dutch neighbours returned to drop his camera off… He also joined us and as we discovered later left his friend back at the bar. I have no idea what time everyone left but it was quite early by the time Georgie and I went to bed, very drunk and having had a f**king mega night once again thanks to the wonders of the buckets!!
