Winter sun in Tenerife

If you’re tied to the school holidays and have a full time job, it kind of limits where and when you can take your holidays, but that doesn’t mean to say you have to hold out for your annual holiday in July and August. In fact, a winter sun break could be just what you need to get you through to the summer – otherwise winter is a long stretch to get through.
But with limited time and, for the majority of people, limited funds, where can you get some guaranteed sunshine in January, February and March? The answer for many Europeans is the Canary Islands. This collection of Spanish islands in the Atlantic just off the coast of northern Africa attracts millions of tourists every year for this very reason. Only a few hours by plane, with plenty of cheap flights and lots of good value accommodation available, the Canaries make a great winter sun destination.
The Canaries are blessed with a warm and sunny climate year round, and most people head to islands like Tenerife to spend time by the pool and on the beach. One of the first resorts on the island was Costa del Silencio, on the south of the island. However don’t be fooled by the name – Costa del Silencio holidays are anything but quiet. There’s plenty going on in this resort!
As with all the resorts on Tenerife, there are plenty of places to eat and drink, and lots of things to do in the local area. However, you still have access to exploring the rest of the island, especially if you hire a car which will allow you to spend time in the lush interior of the island and maybe take a trip up to Mount Teide – the world’s third largest volcano. There are some great hiking trails to do in Tenerife and the winter is a great time to do this – as you won’t find the heat as enervating as it would be in mid-summer.
A week in Tenerife in the winter can be a real tonic, whether it’s just you and a friend, or the whole family going on holiday.
